CM Punk retires from MMA
By - DoubleMatt1
End of an era
No one is ever going to match his 0-1-1 run. 20 years from now, we'll be sitting and thinking. "We watched history unfold and we didn't even know it"
Actually it’s 0-1-0-1. No contest, not a draw. Sorry to be “that guy”…
While we are “well actually-ing” it’s: 0-1(1) NC go in parentheses and you don’t show draws if there are none.
Gotta love a _well actually_ comment get uno reverse carded
That first guy was the CM Punk of *well actuallys*
ITT: meta shit
That’s why you never be “that guy” and just move along if you understand what they meant
This is wrong as well. If there is an absence of a draw then you don't list it but you must say "not a drawl, b" to confirm.
Great guy, Neva meddum
Just to correct you there was never no contest
0101 is digital code for retire.
Lol. Technically this is the binary code for retire:
01010010 01100101 01110100 01101001 01110010 01100101
Bro you really are that guy haha
Don’t worry I’m very self aware. Generally try not to be this annoying.
> Don’t worry I’m very self aware.
Did you go to Fabias school?
Braather Fabia not on my level.
It’s not annoying.
Thanks! You must be one of those elusive positive people I hear so much about. ❤️
Not being sarcastic btw. I just expect most people to be trolls/not nice.
I love username: heliumeyes so freakin much.
Love you holmes
Well technically that's Retire not retire
Found my long lost brother…
01110010 01100101 01110100 01101001 01110010 01100101
You brought shame to our bloodline with this grave mistake. How could I be happy brother?
Ouch, dude. How you gonna do that guy like that, other that guy? You’re like that guy, but living by some sort of that guy code.
01010100 01110010 01110101 01101100 01111001 00100000 01100001 01110011 01101000 01100001 01101101 01100101 01100100 00100000 01100001 01101101 00100000 01001001 00100000 01100010 01110010 01101111 01110100 01101000 01100101 01110010 00101110 00100000 01001001 00100000 01110111 01101001 01101100 01101100 00100000 01100100 01101111 00100000 01101101 01111001 00100000 01100010 01100101 01110011 01110100 00100000 01110100 01101111 00100000 01110010 01100101 01100100 01100101 01100101 01101101 00100000 01101111 01110101 01110010 00100000 01101110 01100001 01101101 01100101
Can't believe you just called me that.

Yo watch the language, Diaz
What is this, the computer channel?
I wish we could realize we’re in the good old days as they’re happening
We all joke, but he did have the balls to actually get in there and get his ass beat by professionals haha. I can at least respect his willingness to do it (aside from the actual circus it was)
Mike Jackson isn't even a professional IIRC.
He's a professional journalist
Professional dick rider of Black Beast's Instagram comment section.
Lmfao I saw him in black beasts instagram comment section arguing with trolls and getting absolutely destroyed while using nothing but racist insults to argue back
If you don't have nice things to say about MJ then just beat it!
Didn’t he get like 500k? Shit I’d do it for a lot less.
Just show up, get subbed, thank myself and leave.
Worked for Bob Sapp. He did it for a pretty long stretch of fights too.
Bob Sapp was actually very dangerous before crocop caved his face in.
Yeah Prime Sapp won some huge fights. He also was a literal house of a man. CM punk just showed up and got smoked
Bob Sapp beat effin Ernesto Hoost .... TWICE 😳
Yeah I remember the Pride days when he slammed Minotauro on his head and all of that. Didn't he have 2 kickboxing wins over Ernesto Hoost or something as well?
His record post-2010 or thereabouts is horrendous though. Mostly 1st round finishes, many of which were Sapp tapping to strikes in less than a minute. He was a meme for a while there, he would show up to some local show and just take the money and run. Funnily enough his last fight was a victory by decision.
You just have to put 15 years into another professional athletic endeavor and become a household name first
There's always a catch.
Yeah, but he's a really famous wrestler and he could have made way more if he just stayed in wwe, but he risked getting seriously injured and embarrassed.
He also genuinely hated WWE and loved the idea of mixed martial arts. Can't hate a guy for escaping a job he hated to pursue something more difficult for himself that he actually enjoyed whether he was successful or not.
His debut in AEW last week was one of the loudest things I’ve ever heard. I don’t think the average MMA fan realizes exactly how beloved a pro wrestler Punk actually is.
Can you give us an equivalent MMA fighter?
That’s a tough one but GSP in Montreal is a pretty good comparison to Punk in Chicago. He’s the most popular wrestler for serious pro wrestling nerds of the 2010-2015 area and it’s not close. When he left WWE he had just set the record for longest reign as champion in decades. He’s insanely, insanely popular among the hardest of hardcore wrestling fans.
Gsp in Montreal. Conor in Ireland. Colby in Harrison, Arkansas
Mike Perry In Africa.
Genuinely been laughing at this for about 5 minutes. This is simply the timeline I want to live in. Congratulations 🤝🤝
Is conor loved in Ireland? I saw r/Ireland post something negative about him and I think it’s their most upvoted post iirc. But that is just a small sample size of Reddit neck beards so
Think of how many fly to Vegas primarily to go to one of his fights. Despite being a right twat, the reaction to him fighting in Ireland these days would be beyond insane.
also he looked like he got into the best shape of his life doing mma. he almost had abs which is something you never saw from Punk.
Not only did he hate WWE but working for them seriously fucked him up mentally. He talked about it in his debut promo in AEW. Said he had to escape the place that made him sick.
Mentally and physically as well. He kept going to the WWE doctors who kept clearing him to perform when he was sick
> We all joke, but he did have the balls to actually get in there and get his ass beat by professionals haha
Every single person on this sub would fight Mickey Gall for $1 million dollars. You don’t need to act like he did anything extraordinary here.
For $1mil I'd even let him bite my nipples like he did to Diego.
Fuck that I let him and Diego hang me upside down for $5,000
He got paid $500k, but he's also worth more than $10 million.
Median US household has a net worth of $120k, so if you fall into that range, it would be like you getting a $6k/$6k show/win fight.
So, when you think about it, actually very much in line with Dana's usual payscale
He got PPV points to fight Gall. His wife said he got at least $1 million.
Ok. So he got $12k to show.
$12k to get publicly beat down in front of millions of people...
I actually have to think about that tbh
Without a doubt he was definitely one of the fighters in history
Anyone notice Ariel helwani did something similar to Tito Ortiz interviewing Babalu “one of the greatest light-heavyweights of the night” when interviewing someone on the Paul Woodley card
I felt like Ariel was doing damage control for MMA’s reputation. He kept bringing up Tyron having lost four straight and sixteen straight rounds lol
Ariel is a real ratfuck <3
Dana: Ariel might be my friend after all 🤔
Ariel was ~~never~~ always my friend
I’m a dumbass, sat here for 5 minutes trying to figure out who tf Paul Woodley is…
He’s related to Paul Harris
He finally healed from all the surgery he made Dana pay for
Will go down as the biggest “what if” in UFC history. If he just started younger, had better fight IQ, had different genetics, and generally wasn’t terrible at fighting he would’ve been the GOAT
+rep. This player is fantastic, just needs to work on striking, grappling, wrestling, defense, timing, strength, speed, cardio, clinching, takedown defense, jiu-jitsu, kick-boxing, Muay Thai , checking kicks, not getting hit and getting wins
"Had different genetics" lmao I'm dead
U might even say best in the world
That's it. I'll stop watching MMA. All the real ones are gone.
Welterweights can rest easy finally
The reign of terror is over
Rest of the division sleeping a little easier tonight
I really thought he’d be the one to truly push Usman, Punks wrestling background was no joke.
He went toe-to-toe with BROCK LESNAR at SUMMERSLAM 2013. If it wasn't for Paul Heyman, CM Punk would've won. Usman wouldn't have a chance!!
WWE championship>division 2 college
Open weight WWE champion
In pure wrestling, it would even be fair. Usman is literally an amateur compared CM Punk. Usman is only the champ because of his striking and fan friendly style. Dana protected him from the real wrestlers like Punk.
Went out on top. Ngannou, Jones, Izzy and Usman never called this guy out. Very happy day for them.
CM > GSP > Spider > Khabeeb
Dont put the goat in the same conversation as those mere mortals
there goes the UFC
Dana in shambles
Along with everything Nate Diaz worked for.
Farewell CM Punk. You were to the UFC what Hercule was to the rest of the Z Fighters.
Hercule actually did something though by keeping Buu calm. I dont see CM punk doing that.
he would've saved the universe if not for those two assholes with the gun. I still say Mr Satan is the hero of the universe
He also convinced all of earth to give energy for the spirit bomb to kill kid buu
Eh, maybe one of those underlings of his.
One of the best to never hold a belt. Is it too soon for GOAT CONVO?
For those taking the piss, this is the reason why he announced his retirement:
He did it so he can withdraw from the USADA testing pool. C.M Punk just returned to pro wrestling. So now he won't have to be subject to as strict of a testing program, as he returns to his pro wrestling career.
You're just mad because he's a white boy and he's jacked, deal with it
CM Punk is many things, jacked is not one of them.
>'I'm a White Boy and I'm Jacked. Deal With It.' - Brock Lesnar
He's referencing Lesnar's quote when asked about steroid or PED use.
Lesnar, of all people, doubling down on being a real human being. That's wild.
Yeah, I know. I was just pointing out the fact that CM Punk is not jacked.
when's the last time he was tested lol
did he have to formally announce it? couldn't he have just stopped submitting samples & they would've shown him the door?
Well duh, he's straight edge bro
Right, but now he doesn't have to get woken up at 5am to piss in a cup anymore.
I swear, they put TRT in my Pepsi! -CM
Maybe just something to help with the recovery. The pro wrestling schedule is grueling.
They work like 300 days out of the year.
Punk won't be working 300 days a year. AEW doesn't do house shows, and Punk won't be wrestling every week, not even close.
Punk is gonna make the most money in his life to wrestle like 20 times a year going forward.
Probably a little less. AEW's schedule is pretty light for the big star's it's usually promos every week and 1 match a month.
Could just be going on testerone replacement therapy. Certainly cheating for MMA but also very much acceptable for WWE if it's in a normal 800-1000 ng/dL range.
TRT doesn't make you a god, it just makes 30ish instead of 42 years old.
Yeah, you still need to work out and eat right. He's not doing at least one of those there. It will still help with recovery though.
>For those taking the piss
USADA won't be taking his piss anymore.
Of all the things to happen these past few years, this one really hurts.
I'm still bummed out UFC snatched him up instead of Bellator, which seemed like the perfect circus for him to do MMA on a "high" level at.
Because the UFC wanted the relatively huge PPV buys he sold.
And because he was already buddy-buddy with Dana and Lorenzo, who literally flew to his home in Chicago and offered him a contract. That part is usually left out when people, even respected MMA journalists, talk about the Punk/UFC stuff.
The only GOAT in my eyes... things will not be the same ever again
But on the other hand, things just might be more the same than they've ever been before!
As much as people want to hate him. He had enough money to live a normal life after his pro-wrestling career at WWE. Instead of sitting home doing nothing, he tried to fulfill one of his dreams of becoming an MMA fighter and that too at a quite late age. He didn't have a successful MMA career, but kudos to the guy for at least trying.
The end of an error
cm punk straight merked people b!! great guy, never meddum
bubba you talmbout the dubba dubba u eff wurld champion seem punk?
He was never the same after that crazy intense beat down by Mike Jackson
You mean when he was ruthlessly assaulted by a drug addict?
Mike Jackson had to rely on PEDs to beat CM Punk and don't forget it.
2nd best in the world
Guess I'm watching soccer now
Man, that CM Punk is a warrior.
Hold on brother I'm choking on tears
Why now Krusty? Why not 10 years ago?
1st ballot hall of famer, B.
Fer shurrr, B. You'd be surprised.
Well .., at least now he has a Chance at winning
It's really night and day for him. He's a literally joke in 1 world and in the other he's a legend and a superstar. (I know one is real and the other isnt before someone says that)
> ( know one is real and the other isnt before someone says that)
MMA isn’t fake. it’s just scripted, brother
Yea, give those MMA fighters some respect, you have to be really in shape to do what they do 3 to 4 times a year.
For every pro wrestler that failed in MMA there is an MMA fighter that failed in pro-wrestling
Tito Ortiz showing up on Impact 😂
Shit we’re a month past celebrating the anniversary of AUGUST 1 WARNING
Velasquez appearing to attack Brock was just weird
Not surprised, I strongly doubt AEW would want one of their biggest stars to embarass himself again.
Not until Jake Hager fights someone who doesn’t train at a beef plant
To be fair, he said biggest
People gotta stop ducking him. Now the goat needs to retire because noone will fight him.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Can this pandemic get any fuckin worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if he could beat people in the regional scene
I think anyone with more experience than Punk beats him hands down. Against anyone with equal to or less experience and are completely out of shape, he would've had a shot similar to Dave Bautista's only MMA fight. Punk lost every practice fight he had in training camp, so there's that.
Reminder that Batista was losing badly until his opponent stopped fighting and started laughing and dancing.
I was too distracted by the fact that Batista's opponent looked like a fat plumber to realize that the guy stopped fighting to laugh and dance at him.
The scale goes from CM Punk to Khabib in terms of winning/losing rounds
He trained full time for two years and didn’t improve at all. No way would he beat any regional fighter.
The way he throws his punches are like he’s still in the wrestling…. They had no follow through or weight… it was bizarre to see
He talked about a conversation he had with Brock about it. How he was so used to cooperate in the ring that it was hard doing the opposite. I don't think he would have won any fights either way but it was interesting I thought. Especially since Brock had told Punk that he struggled with it too.
I don't think he could beat people with a baseball bat and Herb Dean as the ref
He couldn’t win his local blue belt masters bracket. Now maybe he just had some tough guys in there, but I have a pretty good feeling that he isn’t winning against almost anyone who actually trains hard for any amount of time. He’d need a full on never trained skinny fat guy, or to get really lucky.
I was there both times, my fellow goofs. Both times this warrior entered the hallowed octagon. A man of great fame and fortune risking his wellbeing for a taste of glory. A glimpse of Valhalla.
I'm never getting those 17 minutes back. Two otherwise stacked cards to see live, though.
Milking anything we can for an article I see.
People can shit on him, but he wanted to try it and did. Although he wasn't successful he at least made an effort which is more than most people ahitting on him have done.
Took a lot of balls to leave something he was amazing at and move to a combat sport late in his career. Yeah he got paid but he already had a ton of money and could have made a ton more without fighting on a huge platform with little experience
As much shit as he gets, it takes a lot of guts to do what he did. MMA is a tough sport, someone’s gotta win and someone’s gotta lose and I give him all the respect in the world for trying to cage fight someone at the highest level
I can't blame the guy himself, because his self-confidence and warrior attitude was incredible.
But I can definitely blame Roufus, White and whoever else was advising him (and/or milking him) that he might find success in the UFC. Just his basic athleticism was a handicap that... sheesh. I've never seen anything like it. I'm thinking at best, he *might* have had success in one the smaller regional orgs, but no...
Hey he gave it a shot, nothing wrong with that. If you wanna be mad at anyone, be mad at Dana for putting a complete amateur on PPV.
A lot of people made a lot of memes off Punk's two fights and some say it hurt his overall image. Regardless of how you feel about the whole thing, you have to say fair play for him for giving it a go.
I thought Joe Rogan was harsh with the "he just doesn't have any talent" Yes he was training with Duke Roufus for a year or two, but a leopard can't change their spots. Let's call it what it was, Punk was a 40 year old man with 20+ years of mileage.. pro wrestling is 200+ days on the road and you take insane bumps, no matter what anyone says.
Was stoked seeing him in AEW. You could see it in his eyes and whole demeanour how much that moment and pop meant to him. Even if his AEW run somehow is a flop, I'm glad he got that moment. Much respect.
Oh no! Anyway…
Kamaru Usman breathes a sigh of relief.
This is a huge lost for MMA. I grew up watching CM punk, he was the whole reason why I started doing MMA. He had one of the most inspirational run in the game. Thanks for the memories, Phil.
UFC should have a hall of shame
No shame in trying
Biggest what if in MMA
Did he really ever have an MMA career? I mean honestly.
I was seriously surprised at how bad CM Punk was.
Punk would have dominated in a ring. The cage threw him off.
Yes. Sure it was awful, but it took massive balls to step in the octagon at his age, injury history, and experience. He had all the money in the world, but he did this purely for the love of the sport and I can respect that.
I mean unironically, it was a good thing. He showed just what a gap there is between "a kinda athletic guy" and the entry level UFC fighters. Good for him for trying but it's not a gap you can close that quickly.
There wasn't a worse person to transfer over from WWE to UFC. CM Punk is great on the mic and an excellent in ring storyteller, but he's someone with no martial arts back ground, later in life BJJ training and someone who is absolutely unathletic while passing as an athlete. So many pro wrestlers at least have college wrestling or some other sport history.
No hate on Punk though, he did what he wanted to do.
Hey now he’s not even kinda athletic
Stop. Don't. Come back.
Because lack of competition.
To box Jake Paul
