For the record he hit two perfectly placed shots through the weakest point in the body directly down through the thorax and into the heart… this orc was created to run off adrenaline and hate… there was no stopping him… and that was the point.
Edit: if you ever hunted with a bow or studied the body (of men or animal) this is *THEE* perfect shot (twice) that urukai’s heart had to have burst and was only running on the fact that he was made different for a singular purpose (I believe he is a berserker)
I'm just a layman but the first shot looks like it would've forced any normal human being to drop the torch.
Would it've been potentially better to aim for the throat?
EDIT: Nevermind, just rewatched the clip & there's no way Legolas could hit the throat unless he took a page out of Wanted & knew how to curve an arrow.
You’re absolutely right, it would have dropped any human in less than a second and only 5-10 seconds for them to actually bleed out and die. A shot to the throat still isn’t as effective because oxygenated blood is still circulating in the body, whereas bursting the heart causes MASSIVE internal bleeding and robs the body of a huge amount of that oxygenated blood (enough to almost immediately cease muscle function) as well as effectively stopping the flow and even creating negative pressure more than likely. Literally the only placement more effective is the cerebral cortex (literal instant death… like flipping a light switch off) which would require a shot placed between the eyes and actually just above the brow from the angle Legolas was shooting from (heavily armored from helmet *and* skull) or like you said a “wanted” shot where the arrow does a complete 180 and enters at the base of the skull where it meets the spine (also armored by helmet) I’m guessing Sauruman knew the only shot that would stop this berserker Urukai would be severing the cerebral cortex explaining the only armor necessary being the helmet.
Shot a deer with a bow once. Arrow double lunged it and sliced the heart up pretty good. We tracked it for an entire mile before finding it. Somethings are just tough.
The berserker was wearing a full helmet and running forwards at a lower elevation, presenting only the top of his armoured head. Legolas shot the berserker through the heart and into his lung through the only weak spots he could see (behind the collar bone). All despite being blinded by a magnesium torch, easily the brightest thing on a dark battlefield. He receives an A* for effort, unlike those who didn’t watch the scene carefully enough
Yes but that was for the Urk-Hai troops that made up the bulk of their force. The few berserkers were only there to be the first ones on the ladder and to carry the torch for the explosives.
Guy's got a steel helmet on. The only chance Legolas had of taking him out in one shot was the eyehole, or his heart or neck, which considering he was sprinting would be hard even for legolas
No idea why people downvoted this comment. He's right. They are orcs, they were just bred with (goblin-men ? I believe that's how Sauruman said it in the books.) Basically he bred Orcs with Men to spawn the Uruk-hai.
Legolas didn’t miss any of his shots. It just so happened that the Uruk could tank all of the shots and keep running. You even see him stagger under the impact of the arrows, to the point where it dives in at the end
Yes but these berserkers were portrayed to be even one step above an Uruk-Hai whether they were specifically "made" like that or just randomly were the toughest Uruk-Hai out of the pits and were given these roles. Also makes me wonder how Uruk-Hai chose captains? Since technically they're all pretty close in age and experience.
But after researching the wiki it seems that these roles aren't even mentioned in the books, they're just Uruks.
Uruks are simply Orcs. Urak-Hai are Sarumans Orcs, the Orcs of Isengard, which were bred to be much stronger and faster than their Mordor based brethren or pulled out of the ground like it seems in the film. Saruman would have picked the captains.
I assumed based on the film narrative Lurtz was the first Uruk Hai produced and therefore the captain, Ugluk was perhaps the second so then second in command.
You know what it takes to make a shot at that range? Everything comes into play that far, humidity, elevation, temperature, wind, spindrift. There's a 6 to 10-second flight time so you have to shoot at where the target's going to be. Even the Coriolis effect, the spin of the Earth, comes into play.
I would say he hit the fucker exactly where he needed to as well - he knew he wasn't going to kill him before he reached the wall, so he targeted the arm/shoulder holding the torch to get him to drop it. The uruk was just high AF and a beefcake to boot
My absolute favourite moment. We're in a war for all that is good in the world, but I've definitely got time to wind my mate up and make him screw up what could be a crucial tactical bluff. Perfect.
I always figured the Uruk was high on some homemade Saruman speed or something. Kind of like Nazi Stuka tablets. Or ate some crazy mushrooms like some people believe the Viking berserkers may have taken. You never know.
They are called Berserkers and run naked for a reason 😜 Theese guys were no joke in BFME 3 kill shots and didnt go down once just kept running, Boromir got hit in the chest went down, the Uruk got hit in the lungs kept running

I always did Minas Tirith with one of the Mordor armies, do u still get Nazgul if u lay siege to Minas Tirith as Isengard? I have the game installed since I found my old discs last year and going to do a replay of Evil campaign later. I have to try the Minas Tirith as Isengard.
Legolas not only hit the Uruk every time, he also managed to work out which one in the sea of them Aragorn meant with his vague shouting. It's just that he rolled low for damage this one time in all of the story.
>he also managed to work out which one in the sea of them Aragorn meant with his vague shouting.
Yes, terribly hard to makeout which of them he meant when only one was carrying a burning magnesium torch.
I'd like an alternative take where legolas kills 50 other uruks and the beserker makes it through unimpeded and Aragon throws his hands in the air shaking his head at legolas as the wall explodes in the distance.

I wondered why only Legolas drew attention to this guy only after Aragorn told him to, instead of everyone with a bow (and time) on that wall at least taking a shot. It has to be placative in someone's view, that in the middle of the night, in an army full of blackish Uruk-hai's that an enemy running down a path created by cheering enemies towards the wall with a huge fucking sparkling candle is going to attempt some ridiculous shit that is going to be bad for you.
Legolas doesn't even miss the Uruk.
He hits him twice in the area between collar bone and trap muscles. This was the only place Legolas could hit the Uruk that would deal a significant amount of damage.
It was impossible for Legolas to aim for the legs based on his height from the fact the Uruk is sprinting like a nutter.
Historically speaking, beserkers were amped up on drugs if I'm not mistaken. Ever seen a person on PCP get tazed or even shot? They just keep going like zombies.
*hits his shot right between the eyes*
Urk falls down dead.
Second Urk-hai picks up the torch.
*kills that one*
Other Urk-hai warriors pick up the torch bringing it closer and closer as their comrades get killed by Legolas. Until...
Legolas, "Curses! I'm out of arrows."
Didn’t miss a single shot. That thing was just a berserker on a mission, so the shots weren’t able to deal enough damage to kill it from the angle he had to shoot at.
They'd have had to carry the torch with them while they laid the bombs, which would have made it really obvious they were up to something.
I mean, it was obvious anyway, but just seeing one dude with a torch is less suspicious than a bunch of dudes carrying big metal orbs to the weak part of your wall and another carrying a torch.
I've seen the trilogy more than I can count. And what kinda bothered me last week when I watched them again was this scene.
You literally see orcs/uruks just beside the bomb place with lit torches. Why have a dude with sparky torch run from that distance and so obvious when literally 3-4 orcs could just throw the torches in.
I hate to say it but I belive this was a mistake they did. They shouldn't have had orcs with lit torches so close to the bombs. Then it would have made more sense why the berserker ran with his sparky torch.
I hate myself for noticing this
Yeah this is likely something they did for extra drama on screen. My head cannon though is the gun powered they're using is primitive and needs an extremely hot fire to ignite it. That's why they need a special torch. But we don't really know why.
I always justified this by thinking the helmet was just too hard to be pierced by arrows, so they got deflected into other parts of the berserker's body
This fella was one of the Uruk-hai which always take more than one shot, all normal orcs are equivelant to a man in terms of the amount of damage they can take but the uruks can all tank multiple shots so this boi taking 4 shots is still accurate to the general damage one would expect to take, plus the fact he doesnt have a weapon and his sole purpose is that of the torch bearer to commit suicide.
Remember in WW2 it was well documented japanese soldiers taking 50 plus rounds during a bonzai charge before they ceased running at american troops so an Uruk taking 4 arrows is equally plausible when they are bred for one sole purpose.
He didn't miss though, this orc was just the only one who could take it
He should have aimed for the head
To be fair, I don’t think Legolas knew he was shooting at the Boromir of Uruk-Hai. Taking 3 arrows and all and still going.
Borcomir
Bork, come here
Where's my breakfast, Bork! I'm 'ungry!
Had nothin' but maggoty bread for three stinking days!
Gosh darn
Excuse me, my son’s name is also Bork.
Are you talking to me? No my son is also called Bort
Boruk-mir
Underrated pun
Nah he’s gotta helmet. Fingers is where it’s at. Lol.
Should've gone for the arm!
For the record he hit two perfectly placed shots through the weakest point in the body directly down through the thorax and into the heart… this orc was created to run off adrenaline and hate… there was no stopping him… and that was the point. This Orc was what all Orc mamas loved and all Orc daddy's hate

Fucking great chat in this comment section. Gotta love fellowship nerds.
What about two towers nerds?
I don’t think he knows about that one Pip.
We've taken one, yes. But what about second tower? Gate? Fortress? Mount Doom?
I assume you're an archer to some degree. Have you ever tried to curve an arrow? https://youtu.be/qc_z4a00cCQ Thanks for the detailed explanation btw.
What about trying to shoot the torch out of his hand? Probably should have been the play after the first arrow to the ~~knee~~ heart
it is totally possible to [curve an arrow irl](https://youtu.be/qc_z4a00cCQ)
Shot a deer with a bow once. Arrow double lunged it and sliced the heart up pretty good. We tracked it for an entire mile before finding it. Somethings are just tough.
That is actually super impressive… Adrenaline is a helluva drug…
Absolutely weapon-grade comment.
Rumor has it Saruman loaded him up with Pervitin before the mission. No way he was going down.
He's wearing a helmet.
The head covered in a metal helmet? After legolas says the armour is only weak at the neck or under arm?
Yes but that was for the Urk-Hai troops that made up the bulk of their force. The few berserkers were only there to be the first ones on the ladder and to carry the torch for the explosives.
No. Their armour was weak at the neck. Watch the film...
The berserker wasn’t wearing armour
He's clearly wearing a helmet
So are skateboarders but you wouldn't call that armour Edit* guys was a joke, sheesh
Ah yeah, I’m sure that’s a skateboarding helmet and not armor
A helmet is definitely armor…
Well maybe legolas should have worn one when he skated that shield
Main characters don't wear armor that blocks their hair or face so the audience can pick them out of a crowd
Because they don't wear it into combat.
Armour usually refers to the body. That being said I get your point, a helmet can be considered armour so fair enough
Armour usually reffers to protective equipment? If you ever want to specify a specific type of armour, you well... specify that armour peice.
If the head can't be shot then the neck is the best bet right, that's what I meant :) it was a quote from legolas himself.
He’s clearly got a helmet on mate 🤣
Below the arm too
Or some kinda vital tendon in his leg
Paris has entered the chat… wasn’t that Mr. Bloom too?
Have you seen that helmet?
Guy's got a steel helmet on. The only chance Legolas had of taking him out in one shot was the eyehole, or his heart or neck, which considering he was sprinting would be hard even for legolas
He’s wearing a helmet that covers his whole head.
The Orc was just perfectly balanced, as all things should be
r/suddenlythanos
Didn't he have a helmet?
Yes, it’s literally in the meme.
I would have confused that White hand as a helmet. Plus-I don’t think anyone considered an explosion was a threat. Just an orc carrying a light.
I definitely took this as a Thanos reference, but I guess no one else did?
Cocaine is a hell of a drug
He was probably hopped up on crystal grog.
That’s not orc, that is urukhai
This is no rabble of mindless orcs. These are Uruk-Hai. Their armour is thick, and their shields broad.
Uruk-Hai = orc folk. Same thing
No idea why people downvoted this comment. He's right. They are orcs, they were just bred with (goblin-men ? I believe that's how Sauruman said it in the books.) Basically he bred Orcs with Men to spawn the Uruk-hai.
Surely a bunch of intrepid writers have made various fanfictions about the process, like IDK fifty shades of orc?
The fuck
Not sure the what wtf moment is. It's the same deal as olog-hai meaning troll folk. They are all orcs, even though they are slightly different.
It’s true. Orcs and Uruk-hai are the same thing. One’s just in orcish
Ish. The uruk-hai made by sauraman were inherently tougher than their predecessors. Like mini Spartans to our human, to use a halo reference
Uruk-Kai are arguably half-orcs so I’m gonna chalk it up to relentless endurance
He hit vital spots a bunch of times. Why not just shoot him in the eye?
In the eye, from above, through a helmet
If shooting an enemy in the heart multiple times won't stop them, why would hitting them in the eye?
Legolas didn’t miss any of his shots. It just so happened that the Uruk could tank all of the shots and keep running. You even see him stagger under the impact of the arrows, to the point where it dives in at the end
wasnt the berserker not an orc? or am i thinking of a different character?
I think you are completely right, pretty sure that is a berserker, known for being stronger than most general uruk? (Correct me if I'm wrong)
I meant Uruk, not orc
Uruks are orcs are goblins. Just different words for the same thing. Uruk-Hai are isengard Uruks, and are generally larger, stronger and faster.
Uruk simply means orc in the black speech.
Right. Well then
Uruk-Hai berserker, specifically.
Uruk-hai. Technically a stronger orc I guess, but most people differentiate them.
Yes but these berserkers were portrayed to be even one step above an Uruk-Hai whether they were specifically "made" like that or just randomly were the toughest Uruk-Hai out of the pits and were given these roles. What are you talking about? he hit that urk 3 times in a row.
Yeah you can even see an arrow in his shoulder in this picture lol
Came here to say this. Was this meme meant to trigger me?
Thanks for the silver
Reddit exists just to trigger you
I thought so, so why do I keep coming back?
Yeah, it's not Legolas's fault that he was firing at a total beefcake.
I think it was twice.
I would say he hit the fucker exactly where he needed to as well - he knew he wasn't going to kill him before he reached the wall, so he targeted the arm/shoulder holding the torch to get him to drop it. The uruk was just high AF and a beefcake to boot
I don't think legolas ever missed a shot in his life
Arguably he "missed" his intended target when he tried to warn the pirates. Since gimli fucked his bow stability over and he hit that dude full center
Gimli Just casually causing a mans death for a laugh
Eh, they were going to kill all the corsairs anyway. Gimli just wanted to fuck with legolas before the ghosts got to murder everything.
>Gimli just wanted to fuck with legolas ~~with Legolas~~ with the corsairs of umbar. FTFY.
Eh, y’know it was an attempt at humour not a discussion of Gimlis canonical reason for doing it right?
I love to see Legolas look to Gimli after the shot killed a guy instead of a warning shot. Angry look like damn little dude stop messing with ny flow.
My absolute favourite moment. We're in a war for all that is good in the world, but I've definitely got time to wind my mate up and make him screw up what could be a crucial tactical bluff. Perfect.
When the only shoot he missed, killed the film director.
How about when he shot Gandalf ? It wasn't exactly a miss, more of a parry from Gandalf, but still.
He didn't miss, Gandalf cast Shield to give himself +5 AC
Back to the gate! Hurry!
A little late for trimming the verge don't you think?
I always figured the Uruk was high on some homemade Saruman speed or something. Kind of like Nazi Stuka tablets. Or ate some crazy mushrooms like some people believe the Viking berserkers may have taken. You never know.
They have blood poured into their helmets before going into battle which sends them into a rage and makes them impervious to pain
Like I said, Methamphetamines. Lol
Doesn't Gimli get one in the groin and it cringes?
He cringed not from physical pain but the emotional pain of knowing he will never have uruk-kids.
>Some evil gives speed to these creatures. Confirmed canon
They are called Berserkers and run naked for a reason 😜 Theese guys were no joke in BFME 3 kill shots and didnt go down once just kept running, Boromir got hit in the chest went down, the Uruk got hit in the lungs kept running
“Another one of those crazies has just been spawned!”
Some Uruk pikemen has risen from the pits
God I miss that game. Wish they had made another one.

I used to love having them mounted on the ladders
Same, at Helms deep like the movies and attacking theese poor wooden fortresses by Rohan 😂 I never used ladders at Edoras to many damn towers
Minas Tirith as well! It was so easy to take with the berserkers lol
Also, the orc is clearly raging and had resistance to piercing.
And has probably also picked up crit immunity from somewhere
Probably on cocaine.
Less low roll for damage and more a high roll for the ork's fortitude.
>he also managed to work out which one in the sea of them Aragorn meant with his vague shouting.
Lol
And even if that orc would have been taken down, they were ten thousand more standing there ready to pick up that torch and finish the job
Those go down easier though
Actuuuuualy Legolas could have shot the fuse off if he had better aim. Clearly wasn't following orders.
That's Xcom, baby!
Point blank shot 98% chance to hit. Umm what!?
In xcom the arrows would have phased through the ork
Didnt miss. Uruk berserkers are just made for taking anything and moving forward
It is irrelevant; even if Legolas has killed him the next orc would have just picked up the torch and kept running.
Which would have been awesome imagery

Damn, pack it up folks. Somebody posted this over two years ago and it can never be posted again.
Headshot? You see the berserker wearing full iron helmet?🤷🏼♂️
I mean. Would it have made a difference of he had killed him? Plenty of other uruk hai to carry the torch.
Bullshit meme
You….you can see the arrow actually stuck in the uruk…
I wondered why only Legolas drew attention to this guy only after Aragorn told him to, instead of everyone with a bow (and time) on that wall at least taking a shot. Pretty sure the orc got hit and just didn’t care. What I don’t understand is why the orcs didn’t just shoot the bombs with a flaming arrow.
*hits his shot right between the eyes* Urk falls down dead. Second Urk-hai picks up the torch. *kills that one* Other Urk-hai warriors pick up the torch bringing it closer and closer as their comrades get killed by Legolas. Until... Legolas, "Curses! I'm out of arrows."
He didn't miss, he just can't possibly comprehend the level of plot armor that guy was wearing.
Didn’t miss a single shot. That thing was just a berserker on a mission, so the shots weren’t able to deal enough damage to kill it from the angle he had to shoot at.
How about one of the uruks who placed the bomb in the tunnel just light it. They're already there.
They had a few uruks right near the wall with normal torches too. Seemed like unnecessary pageantry to have this guy run a marathon with a sparkler.
Considering he lung shot the orc, I'd say he didn't miss.
They had an entire squad of elves plus a bunch of human archers, why tf weren't they shooting him? Expecting poor Legolas to do everything
Trash meme. He never misses. The picture you used literally has an arrow sticking out. How did you miss that while making this?
I've seen the trilogy more than I can count. And what kinda bothered me last week when I watched them again was this scene. You literally see orcs/uruks just beside the bomb place with lit torches. Don’t blame Legolas, blame whoever designed the deeping wall to be completely straight so archers can’t hit enemies at the base
You can see it going through his mind "I can't believe this fucker of all the fuckers is the one I can't kill in one shot"
Downvoted for inaccuracy.
Nah, that's what a meth overload would do to you.
Elves feel pressure to
he is too in fact susceptible to anxiety
That orc was on ketamine
He should have aim for the knees
I dont think he missed. He shot between the armors. The orc just took it and didnt care tho.
The Nat 1 always comes when you least expected it.
he didnt miss a single one i think, it's more like "never runs out of arrows until it really matters"
I’d let him speak friend and enter.
Repost full of LIES
He was chosen for a reason.
When ever something doesn’t make sense, remember a wizard did it!

This isn't fair. I've seen that scene many, many times and the more I see what comes to mind is a soldier high on psychotropics and painkillers.
If he hit this guy then we wouldn't have had legolas shield surfing down the stairs and stabbing that guy in the face with an arrow
Let me be the 200th commenter to say that he didnt miss at all, that guy was just a tank and didnt care about all the arrows sticking out of him
Literally watched this last night. He doesn’t miss any shots. The two arrows he fires go straight through dudes shoulders at a downward angle.
*sings* under pressure
I always justified this by thinking the helmet was just too hard to be pierced by arrows, so they got deflected into other parts of the berserker's body
At least he took the shot, no Ben Simmons here
This fella was one of the Uruk-hai which always take more than one shot, all normal orcs are equivelant to a man in terms of the amount of damage they can take but the uruks can all tank multiple shots so this boi taking 4 shots is still accurate to the general damage one would expect to take, plus the fact he doesnt have a weapon and his sole purpose is that of the torch bearer to commit suicide. Remember in WW2 it was well documented japanese soldiers taking 50 plus rounds during a bonzai charge before they ceased running at american troops so an Uruk taking 4 arrows is equally plausible when they are bred for one sole purpose.
Have a bath Legolas
What a dumb meme lol
