I'm pretty good at tilt control in poker. What really tilts me is rerarded teammates when I'm playing a MOBA.
Yep 5/5/10 plo at aria is my main game. I like to travel around to better PLO games too though.
I usually shortstack so I'm probably not the best to answer that question. My biggest downswing in 2 years from this game is just under 10k and i had a 25k upswing in like 35 hours of play.
Seems reasonable for that stake. I play the 1/2 a lot at Aria when I'm in Vegas so was just wondering what that game was like. If you've played the 1/2, how much tougher is the 5/5/10? Maybe it's worth it for me to take a shot.
I'd say there's a lot more agression without the nuts and bluffing so you have to be more comfortable getting your stack in and being aggressive yourself. Honestly it's just really hit or miss. Sometimes I walk by and 7/8 at the table are at least trying to play for a living and I dont even bother playing. Other times you get 6 casual players and 2 of them are having drinks and playing every hand.
Wynn often has a 1/2 with 1k max buyin that tends to play a bit bigger than the aria 1/2 if you want something half way.
Mildly untamed? Thanks for the compliment. Usually they cant see it through my hoodie, sunglasses and face mask though. Now that I'm looking at 2.6bb/100 in the live game, there's no time to shave proper. /s
This is probably an unpopular opinion but while technically not improper, the Netflix/games on an iPad are terrible for the poker ecosystem. The poker table should be a fun engaging place that recreationals want to play at. No buisness man on vacation want to play with 8 guys watching movies on their iPads with headphones in. These guys basically leach off of other people with social skills keeping the atmosphere good.
I listen to books but it keeps me from making dump preflop calls. I don't care if people do it as long as they are paying attention and acting when it their turn.
Even a few years BC ( before Covid ), I would fringe watching video of Phil Laakauling a sandwich at the table.
All I can think is that half the tourists in Vegas / Paris / London / wherever have touched those chips. Norwalk virus is a notorious thing in such places. Not as serious as Covid, but nobody wants to be a double ended fountain for three days.
Gross.
It's one of the 16 Meyer's-Briggs personality types. Saying I "suffer from" it is sort of sarcastic. INTPs are introverted and analytical, so I enjoy playing to strategy games at once and mostly ignoring the opportunity to socialize around me.
Mbpt is the original Facebook quiz and has no real world baring other than getting laid on hinge. But then are you really trying to sleep with someone that identifies them self off a Facebook quiz?
I just assumed Nits don't have good hourlies, but I could be wrong. I guess in the right game they do, but vegas games are notoriously nitty to begin with. I guess I play closer to correct preflop ranges than most though so maybe nitty compared to the field.
I mean I'd consider every game I've played outside of vegas to be softer than most games in vegas. You can be a nit and still win, its just not maximizing your hourly.
How successful are you in life that you can afford two expensive hobby’s like this hahaha. Also how’s the Arena scene these days. I deleted it a long time ago when it launched cause I got bored with standard.
It's expensive not to play live poker. I only play limited on mtga. The latest set sucked imo especially since I tend to do quick draft while playing poker and you just end up playing vs BR 80% of the time. I play modern horizons 2 on mtgo while I grind online. Much better set.
Oh nice they started supporting more formats that’s cool. Would you say it’s new player friendly? I know they were working on UI and all the basic features early on so it can be a whole new client for all I know.
Do you play socially with others?
I think its much more new player friendly to play non-constructed formats. I've heard it seems like everyone wants to grind out wins with some quick aggro/combo deck and as a new player, getting the cards to compete is tough.
I draft like once a month at bar in vegas which is pretty fun. Jimmy fricke runs it which I thought was funny because I think the first poker book that really helped me was gus Hanson's Every Hand Revealed which was about his 2007 aussie millions win and jimmy got 2nd in that event.
I suggest playing legends of runeterra.
Meta deck easily attainable within a week for free, and you can pretty much get another unique (not shared) meta deck every week. $20-30 can pretty much buy any deck instantly, with that cost decreasing as you get more cards.
Complete collection totally doable even now. Not sure exactly, but probably 6-12 months depending on how much you play.
They have draft, if that’s what you mean by limited.
It’s similar to HS draft, but instead of 3 single card options, you get 3 thematically related options. They also weight future options based on your earlier ones. For example, if you select 100% from one region early, you will pretty much always get an option for that region in your later picks. It helps a lot for deck consistency, but not in an overbearing way.
You also get two runs for the entry price, and your rewards are based on the best result. This means that your awesome deck is less likely to succumb to bad luck.
The game is super cheap/free to play, so I recommend giving it a shot. Also, after three entries, the rest of the entries for the week are free.
Ya know I played League since season 1 and never bothered with Runeterra. I honestly didn’t even know people played it. Is there a card game comparison for gameplay or best to just dive in kinda thing?
It’s a hybrid of hearthstone and mtg.
It has some folks who used to design for mtg. Basically, the mana system means you don’t get mana screwed or flooded. Additionally, the spell mana aspect means that you don’t always have to play on curve like hearthstone.
The game seems fairly balanced, and people complain about diversity when there are only 3 or 4 decks that are S-tier. Other than the top of masters, you probably have at least 10 decks that are viable for 55%+ win rates (enough to climb) at the hands of a skilled player.
I strongly suggest just diving in. Play the tutorials to get a lot of free stuff and learn the mechanics. Then search mobaltytics for a budget deck.
I used to play a lot of online poker, and I moved down to Mexico after Black Friday to a building with a lot of other poker players. There was a lot of overlap with mtg. We used to do MTG draft sweats on mtgo and gamble on games pretty regularly
Downfall of this is you’re not really paying attention and you’re probably only playing premium hands. Anyone else who knows this is going to play perfect against you.
Unless I'm aware of this preconceived notion and adjust accordingly. Then shit gets weird.
I know it does put me at a disadvantage as I often will miss how my opponets play post-flop. Its a crutch to put in some more hours when I'm bored with playing and I'm still pretty profitable.
Just shows you that there is always going to be plenty of fish 🐟 no matter what game you play.
What you should do is open bluff early on if everyone folds then you can show it and now sit back and play monsters and no one will believe you cuz you showed one shitty hand.
Good luck
I saw a video of a couple guys who were playing in a live tourney and playing on their laptops at the same time in an online game. They had to ok it with everyone at the table first but one of them took first in the online game while waiting for the bubble to pop. I never thought of doing this as rude it’s just a more complex fidget spinner.
Honestly, I expected downvotes and don't think this should be allowed, but if my options are sit at home and play videogames or sit at a poker table and get paid while I play videogames, I'm choosing the latter.
Fwiw it sounds like you're pretty in-tune. I see where you're coming from with wanting to be more productive and respect that.
Honestly I'm ok with people doing it sometimes, especially in live ring PLO which is so slow. Just hope being on the tablet is not an all the time thing.
Was in a game last Friday drinking with and entertaining three fish while four people at the table had headphones in and basically never looked up from their phones. The fish got destroyed and by the end of the night you could tell it wasn't a situation that they'd be likely to return to. Makes a very strong point for the bad practice of isolating fish in private games.
I'm pretty introverted so my default is to want to just sit there and listen to music or be on reddit. I'll step up and do shots and bullshit with a whale though if no one else is foing to so it to keep him there. Usually the higher the stakes, the better the regs are at this from my experience.
To play live poker, what bankroll would you recommend for:
* 1/2 or 1/3 NLHE
* 2/5 NLHE
* 5/10 NLHE
* 10/20+ NLHE
I think 20x full buyin is good at 1/2 and 1/3, but I’m wondering if you would recommend more at higher stakes
It's going to vary a lot because it depends on your edge vs the field. Everyone is diffetent. I think 20 buyins is plenty for whatever your normal stake is in live if you're crushing that game. I haven't had much experience in 10/20+ NL, but overall 10/25+ PLO has been softer than 5/10 imo.
I didnt want to do this, but gotta play what comes to you. I opened dtizzt for my first two drafts of the format pack 1 and ended up building the lifegain archetype with him.
Does getting mana screwed/flooded make you tilt at poker? Also, what poker game? Aria 5/5/10 plo?
Annoying shit happening in MtG tilts me infinitely more than anything that ever happens at a poker table. It makes no sense but it's the truth.
I think when you're doing something just for fun and it goes shitty it's more tilting. You have to accept the varience in poker or it'll destroy you.
That makes a ton of sense really.
Lose a few thousand in a day "Meh" A 12 year old chooses a hero I disagree with in OW...I can't type what I have said to minors in that game...
I'm pretty good at tilt control in poker. What really tilts me is rerarded teammates when I'm playing a MOBA. Yep 5/5/10 plo at aria is my main game. I like to travel around to better PLO games too though.
..do you play mobas while at a table? o.o
I stick with turn-based strategy games at the live games. I'll 0lay a moba and majic at the same time sometimes though
You’re giving call outs like they’re invading jungle and the whole table is looking at you
What kind of swings can I expect if I started playing that game?
I usually shortstack so I'm probably not the best to answer that question. My biggest downswing in 2 years from this game is just under 10k and i had a 25k upswing in like 35 hours of play.
Seems reasonable for that stake. I play the 1/2 a lot at Aria when I'm in Vegas so was just wondering what that game was like. If you've played the 1/2, how much tougher is the 5/5/10? Maybe it's worth it for me to take a shot.

As long as you don’t hold up the action you can do anything you want
I still play at an above average speed.
Do you wear glasses, headphones, and have mildly untamed facial hair? Do you mostly keep to yourself at the table and play more nitty than average? 😂
Mildly untamed? Thanks for the compliment. Usually they cant see it through my hoodie, sunglasses and face mask though. Now that I'm looking at 2.6bb/100 in the live game, there's no time to shave proper. /s
Do you bring the tablet just to let everyone know?
Let everyone know no matter how badly the table beats them WOTC beats them harder and more regularly?
This is probably an unpopular opinion but while technically not improper, the Netflix/games on an iPad are terrible for the poker ecosystem. The poker table should be a fun engaging place that recreationals want to play at. No buisness man on vacation want to play with 8 guys watching movies on their iPads with headphones in. Better than being loosey goosey while eating a sandwich.
Or ordering ribs at the table
Ribs/chickenwings/nachos
Don't temp me with a good bbq
Garlic fries
Even a few years BC ( before Covid ), I would fringe watching video of Phil Laakauling a sandwich at the table. Damn your auto correct
use a fork.
But you can't be all loosely goosey casting a delver
Would’ve been funnier if you were playing poker while playing poker
I see this a lot, actually
This is me lol.
This is also me
This is so common in casinos thats almost guaranteed if there is 2 table or more.
When did you first learn you are autistic
I just suffer from INTP and a caffeine addiction. Holy fuck live poker is slow after a venti cold brew.
>live poker is slow ~~after a venti cold brew~~
INTP?
It's one of the 16 Meyer's-Briggs personality types. Saying I "suffer from" it is sort of sarcastic. INTPs are introverted and analytical, so I enjoy playing to strategy games at once and mostly ignoring the opportunity to socialize around me.
Mbpt is the original Facebook quiz and has no real world baring other than getting laid on hinge. But then are you really trying to sleep with someone that identifies them self off a Facebook quiz?
>baring INTPs wouldn’t spell it that way. Sounds like you got one of the shitty normie personality variants and are upset about it. It will be okay.
All IN*Ps are autistic, I don’t make the rules
> INTP ah so you are an idiot.
INTPs have the highest average intelligence of any personality type so that information at least means he’s less likely to be.
Jesus fuck personality tests are absolutely nonsense.
According to what?
I have the highest average intelligence out of me and you lmao owned
I really don’t give a shit what you do to pass time at the table as long as you know the action and act when it’s your turn.
Nit! ☺️
[not nit stats](https://www.reddit.com/r/poker/comments/ozvzxp/17_months_of_live_poker_september_was_rough/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
How does hourly = not being a nit?
I just assumed Nits don't have good hourlies, but I could be wrong. I guess in the right game they do, but vegas games are notoriously nitty to begin with. I guess I play closer to correct preflop ranges than most though so maybe nitty compared to the field.
Wait so am I wrong in assuming Vegas players are better than others outside of Vegas?
I mean I'd consider every game I've played outside of vegas to be softer than most games in vegas. You can be a nit and still win, its just not maximizing your hourly.
Just was looking for laughs ☺️ bring a nit is not a negative thing always
Guy to your right not a nit guy with tablet might be though not enough history yet hahah 😆
Good observation
Will you stake me? Trying to get out of micros.
Honestly, I'd love more mtt horses, but don't have the time to invest in new ones right now.
Bro I think he min cashed the hot $30 on Stars the other day. You’d be a fool to not stake that man.
Next stop Vegas and The Mirage
Thats crazy. With me, you don’t need time, just money ;-)
Will you stake me? Won states in 2006 and top 8 at 2 GPs
Maybe after the wsop is over
Ha , meming comp magic is dead. Good luck at series-- take a break and go for a hike at red rock in the early morning if you get a chance!
Let’s play brawl while we play 5/T together. I’ll be there Sunday.
Im in

This is me. Poker and mtga limited. The latest set does suck for drafting indeed.
Standard 2022 is pretty damn fun with lots of decks that are close in power level.
and now you’ve got your phone out, taking a picture on top of everything else….
At least it's while I don't have cards in front of me
I used to play a lot of online poker, and I moved down to Mexico after Black Friday to a building with a lot of other poker players. There was a lot of overlap with mtg. We used to do MTG draft sweats on mtgo and gamble on games pretty regularly

Your draft deck looks ok what are the treasure payoffs besides Kalain? Any bomb goodies we don’t know about?
I don't remember. Its actually at least a few weeks old.
Have your GTO solver app running in the background….
Ya it's kinda weird. Every time I run my solver, it says "you should be playing in Texas."
You do know there are simpler programs for randomizers right?
Ya but I lost my watch
I like your style dude.
Thanks bro

we have players in my room who play pokerbros and live. slows the game down so much
What game are you playing mtg?
Ya. Mtg arena. It's been lowering my poker hourly and making the grind easier for years.
I think it just makes it easier to know when you have a hand like those guys who look at their phones all day then randomly put it down to 3 bet
It's PLO. No one is folding anyway.
You yourself said it brought your poker hourly down so okay

Stop this retarded circlejerk already, idiots have been repeating it for decades now and guess what, has not happend, will not happen
When did you first learn you are autistic
Considering you posted this twice I have the same question for you
My 2 favorite card games. Played at the pro tour a year ago.
Nice! 💥💥💥
Do you play in paper at all? What's your favorite format?
I draft once in a while in paper. Don't really play any constructed. I need some gamble in it.
Ever draft any cube?
Ya I do enjoy some cube every once in a while. I tend to play a lot of reanimator or superfriebds decks.
I'm tilted
Dude that’s why your so slow on arena.
You're not wrong. Have to give poker the priority.
if i was at your table you would get no action not from me , but imean i would call you out instantly
Then I'd bluff you all day =]
BR treasures, nice! And that’s a solid starting hand. Hope you won.
standard or historic?
Draft
Yes you are
Say you're a nit without saying you're a nit :)
To play live poker, what bankroll would you recommend for: * 1/2 or 1/3 NLHE * 2/5 NLHE * 5/10 NLHE * 10/20+ NLHE I think 20x full buyin is good at 1/2 and 1/3, but I’m wondering if you would recommend more at higher stakes

50-100 buyins. 100 buyins if you are a professional.
Downvoted for Rakdos. /s
That's totally fair.
What game you playing on the tablet?
Magic the gathering arena
I have I big problem with this. Be a man and play mtgo at the table.
Being a degen, I still prefer mtgo so I can open $100 monkies, but the controls are tougher on the tablet.
No Tim, you’re good convo regardless. :)
Are you playing poker to sustain your MTGA addiction?
Ya. New set is going back to innistrad so I need to save up.
I do the same thing but not with Red black garbage… white lifegain all the way… best of luck
I didnt want to do this, but gotta play what comes to you. I opened dtizzt for my first two drafts of the format pack 1 and ended up building the lifegain archetype with him.
I take it it’s illegal to check for ranges and stuff to improve your poker game at the table
Ya that's not allowed.
I was wearing a Bills hoodie since there’s a bunch of us here lol
This dudes gold 25 days in the month. Hopefully you're better at poker than magic.
Are you a lawyer or what
Na that's too much work, just another lazy poker player.
I legit do this exact thing lmao
