Hammond, in a desperate panic: "OLIVER!"
or: "The peace and serenity of the beautiful Ugandan morning was interrupted with the bellow of a wild animal..." ***CLARKSON!!!!***
Premier of The Grand Tour - that moment when Hammond and May pull along side Clarkson in their Mustangs. Those smiles. I legit got choked up.
And, that moment pretty much sums up what I love about the show - 3 blokes, good friends all, sharing some laughs and adventures.
Watching that first episode was especially meaningful for my wife and me. At the time, we were staying with some friends in Middle Tennessee ... because we were set to be in the live audience for the Nashville taping the very next day.
See, for the first several episodes, none of the audience members had gotten to see what the show was like. Not so for us. The first episode aired that evening, and we drove to Nashville the next morning to be in the audience. It was such an amazing experience to not only be a part of it, but also due to the excitement that everyone had having just seen the first episode. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Side note: I've actually had a few people come up to me, having recognized me as "[the bow tie guy](https://i.imgur.com/WbXX03j.jpg)" from that episode.
Oh no shit?? That's awesome! Dude you were soooo smiley that whole episode! Hahaha. How long was that segment about them fighting the crowd? In the show there are several cut aways, I always wondered how long that actually took to shoot.
Mine is similar but it’s when they ended the in studio portion of TGT. The raw emotion from Clarkson was rare and shows just how much all three loved doing this for so long.
How hard was it to just walk up to him and give him a hug? Me with my poor impulse control probably would've done that.
I'd like to believe that that one guy yelling "Don't stop" after the walk down was not scripted, but a spontaneous reaction from the crowd. Hell, I bet loads of us thought the exact same thing at the exact same time.
I'll rain on the parade.
Amazon is ruining it. They're depending on money to entertain. They hired entertainers and then just throw money and make explosions and planes and helicopters and expensive cars.
Cheap Porsches. 100 bucks to Manchester and back. That was when the entertainers had to entertain. Now they go for the expensive thrills and don't let the trio be entertainers.
Scotland was great. No matter how much money they could spend, the world didn't let them. It was a really good setup to be like their older stuff.
I agree that most of the Top Gear episodes were better than the Amazon episodes. But, I wonder how much of that is the BBC's fault for all of the things they did not allow the boys to do in a new show - Celebrity drivers, The Stig, the news, etc. That seriously hampered any effort.
It was also fun to see them try to avert the sensor. Now they throw dildos at each other.
Again it's just kind of removing the entertainers ability to entertain. They could rock it without the stig the news etc. Besides Amazon has metrics and all that and sees that people were skipping over those segments so nerfed them anyway.
Give 'em €2000 each for cars (including modifications and repairs) and make them do a series of challenges across a Copenhagen-Oslo-Helsinki route. In January.
It’s likely underappreciated but when they organize all the UK made vehicles at The Mall and drive down it in F types. That always overwhelms my gear head brain and makes me shed a tear. I’m American and something about their national pride strikes a cord.
Let me see...
TG:
Jeremy with his stick behind his car in Africa, great scene.
James with the machete in the jungle.
And Oliver.
GT:
Jeremy driving on top of his lavatory RV and the chaos it brings.
James shouting after Hammond pulls the 'guide rope'.
And of course: CLAAARKSON where is my roof?
All three together its either the Toybota at sea or the beginning of GT in the desert. No its the opening scene of GT with the mustangs.
No one is mentioning Jeremy screaming on the motorway in the DIY caravan?
I have a couple others:
The Britcar 24 from season 10: “We accidentally wrote arse biscuits on the door” was the start of one of their best gags.
The auction from the classic time trial rally in season 13. Just a perfect encapsulation of the boys busting each other’s balls.
The lap of Monaco in the hot hatches with Christian Horner, Flavio Briatore and Bernie Eccelstone. No matter how long they had been doing the show, they could still be awed by something new.
The britcar episode is my favorite of all the episodes. The boys go into it with absolutely no seriousness, but by the end of it they really care. And it shows.
For me, it's when Jeremy announced the end of the in-person part of the show. He showed a moment of uncharacteristic humanity that made me appreciate what those three have done over the last couple decades
The Peugeot segment they did with the reenactment of the meeting where they decide to start making terrible cars is easily one of my favorite bits of television of any sort ever. I'm going with that.
When they go out and drive like an average Peugeot driver is probably the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a TV show. James just casually driving into the ditch made me absolutely lose it.
“Maniac!”
Jeremy screaming in terror as his motor home block of flats sways disastrously from side to side on the motorway while May howls with laughter behind him
One moment I just love, in Uganda(?) during the Nile special, when they've arrived at the 'hotel' and Clarkson is fuming at Hammond, and May just comes out with 'This one's got a chair and a table'. Brilliant
For me, the crowning Top Gear moment could be Jeremy driving the Aston Martin DB11, knowing that the end for the v12 supercar was near, and fading to black with "Goodnight."
Same here, although at that time there were speculations that the BBC was going to pull the plug on the show. There wasn’t much certainty whether there’d be another series. I watched that episode long after it was aired so it didn’t have the same impact as it would’ve had if I’d seen the episode when it aired. Nonetheless it’s still an amazingly brilliant episode which remains one of my absolute favourites
Two favorite moments from the Top Gear era: Clarkson trying to drive the Reliant Robin was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Also the boys trying to kill the Toyota Hilux was amazing.
Yes! The Reliant with Jezza driving was probably the hardest I had ever laughed up to that point in my life. I showed that clip to literally anyone I thought might find it even remotely amusing. I'm surprised this isn't further up!
Love every single comment in here. They are spot on for me. My top 3: 1) the opening scenes of TGT (tear up every single time). 2) When they announced “the show as you know it, is over” but told us they would keep specials going. (Felt like they know that we just aren’t ready to be done with them yet and I can’t thank them enough. They kinda raised me and I thought it was over after TopGear) and 3) my favorite special Vietnam. Seeing Jeremy hate motorcycles his whole career, to genuinely enjoying his time on that scooter, to eating total shit at the end and just when you think it’s over they have to convert them into boats and travel through those islands. I want to visit that place now and on my bucket list is to complete that exact journey that way. <3
I really enjoyed the London to Edinburg race. The best was Seeing Jeremy run flat out into a fancy restaurant literally black with soot covering his whole body, and genuinely believe that he won. That was a great moment. Followed byJames telling him: “you have permission to say oh cock.”
Close second is May taking the phone from Clarkson at the North Pole: “Hammond? May, bad luck.” (Hands phone back to Jeremy)
In general, the intro and Clarkson saying “tonight…” or Clarkson introducing Stig.
Personally, finally seeing them driving the McLaren, Porsche and Ferrari on TGT Episode 1.
>or Clarkson introducing Stig.
"Some say that in a recent late-night deal, he bought a slightly dented white Fiat Uno from the Duke of Edinburgh."
This aired on the state broadcaster.
I don’t know after years of James May talking about the “Good News” of the Dacia Sandero and then Clarkson gets him one Romania only to have it backed into by a lorry was just so priceless and really brought me back to classic Top Gear
For me personally it’s the India special. Just seeing them trying to deliver lunches and failing spectacularly was both hilarious and iconic, since I used to live in Bombay. Favorite moment was James May not just losing the race, but losing Bombay altogether lol.
Edit: Also the train banners - Eat English Muff(in) lol
The Jaaaaaaaag episode when Richard throws the rod in the Mark Ten, and when the cop roasts him about Lucas electrics.
Side note the Mark Ten does look villainous and I want one
my vote goes to when hammond in his beach buggy was suspended under a helicopter, and he wakes up..."AAAAARRRRRGGHHHH HHHAAAAAAARRRRRRRGHHHHH YOU BASTARDS"
The special with the beach buggies, where Clarkson's won't start and Hammond says let me see if mine works. It starts and then May starts his. Clarkson says can I get a push and they both just drive off.
"Look! A hippos head!"
"Oh, it is!"
"It's probably a whole hippo, it's just that the rest of him is under the water."
***
"They are the funniest creatures on earth, aren't they?"... "Americans."
I always loved the episode where they had to get to some awards ceremony on one tank of gas and Clarkson was trying desperately to lose. No matter what he did he could not get his car to run dry.
Sidenote, my favorite name-jab was Richard J. Cheeseburger Hammond.
The Africa special (search for the source of the river Nile). All of it; the entire two part episode. It's positively brilliant. Could have been a movie.
Peugeot drivers segment was fantastic, and also the Inappropriate use of Launch Control bit from TGT was very funny....
Also Jeremys Bone car was brilliant!
That scene where they tried to transport fish and James is in his Mercedes where he's built a fish tank in the back, the tide is rising and the car is beached... He tries to move forwards but it's stuck, the car bounces and that makes the water spill from the tank into the car itself, flooding it with James in it. Clarkson seems to almost have a heart attack laughing. I honestly had to pause the episode to compose myself as well.
[This is the scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWHkbeEqaYM)
Any episode where they're let loose with military equipment. The battleship vs Hammond bugout car was a good one.
Also the car battleships game "you sunk my limousine"
When they use the military equipment to do demolition and they are all standing around Clarkson's mine clearing machine and giving him hell for it, he ends by saying "Princess Di had one" and the whole crew breaks out laughing. Absolutely perfect play on their joke about princess Anne having some type of car and the mine clearing machine being a white U.N. type thing princess Diana was probably involved with.
Just showed how well they knew each other and would write an idea then be able to generate gold off of it once filming.
It’s got to be when they all drove towards the new grand tour stage in their mustangs… the wait was finally over and we didn’t have to watch that ginger twat on bbc 2
Jeromy is explaining that you need to ask every parent if you can film at a kids sports day. And Hammond responds by telling him to go to his on kids sports day.
Also the fragrance between the NSX, Aventador, and Rimac. That race was insane.
I know this probably wouldn't even make top 10 (or 100?) for most people, but the Goodbye tribute to SAAB was really good. I'm not even a SAAB fan but that became my favorite moment of the show.
The first episode I watched with my kids was the one that showcased the Robin Reliant. And the first time Clarkson took that corner and flipped it, I laughed so hard I nearly blacked out.
Hammond in his "RV" in america... "down to 13 mph now... which is plenty" always makes me cry tears, I absolutely love that scene idk why i love it so much
"It's probably a whole hippo, it's just that the rest of him is under the water."
"There's a man over there with the best combover I've ever seen."
"We can't be at the equator, there would be a big dotted line..." Thanks hammond lol
I’ve entered Jezzas Back alley
We've come into Jezza
Wait that's a terrifying thought
Well found.
HAMMOND YOU IDIOT, YOU'VE REVERSED INTO THE SPORTS LORRY!
Jeremy was so much fitter then
Only realised how much slimmer he is there when I saw the gif. Wow.
He blames quitting smoking.
I can believe it. That's a real shame..
All that farm work...
[Sports Lorry](https://imgur.com/26XVOYi)
gifs you can hear.
And i read that with clarksons voice
This is the answer
Hammond, in a desperate panic: "OLIVER!" or: "The peace and serenity of the beautiful Ugandan morning was interrupted with the bellow of a wild animal..." ***CLARKSON!!!!***
The second one for sure
That whole special was just amazing, I'd say the nile episode is the best of them all.
For me top is Bolivia - but they were both just so damn perfect that I don't think there's a wrong answer with either of those :D
I agree. James attacking Clarkson with a machete 😂
To be fair... he *did* warn him.
Did your co-presenter on your television program just attack you with a machete?
Or the other one: CLAAARKSOOON! CLARKSON! WHERES MY ROOF?!
Hahaha, yuuup! Followed by... *Engine Start & Rev... Movement...* ***CRRRACKK!***
“Sometimes my genius... it’s almost frightening”
*sound of glass shattering*
Hammond coming back after his near-death-experience wreck. .......pick any of the lot.
Which one of the many he had
The one on the salt flats... I'm amazed Mindy let him keep working after that
The one where he flipped.
Premier of The Grand Tour - that moment when Hammond and May pull along side Clarkson in their Mustangs. Those smiles. I legit got choked up. And, that moment pretty much sums up what I love about the show - 3 blokes, good friends all, sharing some laughs and adventures.

Great moment for sure. Everything from racing cars to tractors.
Not to forget busses
This is definitely my favorite episode of either series.
That moment when the F1 cars leave factory in milton keynes…
F Types.
Anndddd I’m editing
Definitely made me want to get an F-Type.
Gin in the Arctic or starting up the Hilux after blowing up a building under it.
JM: Hammond RH: Yes Mate? JM: May. Bad Luck. *hands phone back to Clarkson* Funny every time.
Absolute savagery
"I'll make one."
The arctic special was really peak top gear to me. 3 blokes go out and do something absolutely extraordinary.
We're now the most northern people on the planet ... Apart from Michael Parkinson of course
Let me see... TG: Jeremy with his stick behind his car in Africa, great scene. James with the machete in the jungle. And Oliver. GT: Jeremy driving on top of his lavatory RV and the chaos it brings. The lap of Monaco in the hot hatches with Christian Horner, Flavio Briatore and Bernie Eccelstone. No matter how long they had been doing the show, they could still be awed by something new.
Jeremy in his caravan flat never gets me not to laugh, and the reactions of Hammond and May to it as well.
That's the best one in my opinion. The pure unadulterated laughter from Hammond and May is priceless.
Clarkson rolling on the pontoon when Hammond capsized really recaptured that pure humour.
May wheezing his lungs up as Jeremy screams while a lorry passes him. Iconic laugh.
And then May built over his fuel cap
That was my first intro to the show. Was researching motor homes on YouTube and thankfully that popped up lol
The leaning tower of citron
The britcar episode is my favorite of all the episodes. The boys go into it with absolutely no seriousness, but by the end of it they really care. And it shows.
Hammond blasting a patient from his ambulance through a window and Jeremy shouting “Hammond! You blithering idiot”
And now… Coup de grâce PATIENT TO HOSPITAL!
For me, it's when Jeremy announced the end of the in-person part of the show. He showed a moment of uncharacteristic humanity that made me appreciate what those three have done over the last couple decades
That was the point where you could truly tell how much it all meant to them, especially Clarkson.
That moment in Argentina, when he talks about seeing his dad for the last time
Another good dose of humanity from Clarkson is in the Clarkson Farm series with the sheep episode.
Poor guy, didn’t get to part like he wanted to.
I just get goosebumps from even thinking about that scene
The Peugeot segment they did with the reenactment of the meeting where they decide to start making terrible cars is easily one of my favorite bits of television of any sort ever. I'm going with that.
The funny bit is that they actually were drunk by the final take
When they go out and drive like an average Peugeot driver is probably the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a TV show. James just casually driving into the ditch made me absolutely lose it. “Maniac!”
SPIT ET KLEENEX!
"This breakfast meeting will put peugeot on the map for many years to come, make no mistake" *pans to may chugging wine*
Jeremy screaming in terror as his motor home block of flats sways disastrously from side to side on the motorway while May howls with laughter behind him
James May getting a tank of water on his head, completely unscripted. Never laughed harder.
Hammonds laugh completes the scene
Clarkson sharing about the car/night his father died.
Was that the 928?
Yep
The entire 24hr of Silverstone episode for me. I find it was less and episode and more filming the three of them in a properly genuine moment.
I love the bits where the Stig was in the car and how excited they were to see him slaughtering the other drivers.
In the Africa special when Clarkson ties a log to the back of his car and it bounces and breaks the rear window

I remember talking to a friend about the next series after that and he said "wait, it wasn't cancelled? Why did he end it like that?!"
What episode was this?
It was actually a v12 vantage.. s13e7, the VW advertisement. Scary moment for all of us who were watching 12(!!!) years ago.
Just came back from watching it. Knowing what people thought might happen to the series, it gives me goosebumps.
When they were at a gas (petrol) station in Alabama.
She said she was calling „The Boys“
We all should breath a sigh of relief that Billy Butcher didn't turn up.
Oh no anyways
Two favorite moments from the Top Gear era: Clarkson trying to drive the Reliant Robin was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Also the boys trying to kill the Toyota Hilux was amazing.

That moment, when jeremy looks in the mirror on the highway…
The rest is history! lmao
Hammond answering the question in Vietnamese driving school takes the cake for me Always give way to the car from the right
Such a classic moment you’re right! Lmao
Clarkson’s snow-measuring technique, car football, and of course “LOOKWHATYOUVEDONETOMYBLOODYSHEDMAN”
“I had this bomb”
Jezza announcing that someone was going to make a wax figure of him, and Hammond and May roasting him.
I really enjoyed the London to Edinburg race. The best was Seeing Jeremy run flat out into a fancy restaurant literally black with soot covering his whole body, and genuinely believe that he won. That was a great moment. Followed byJames telling him: “you have permission to say oh cock.” Close second is May taking the phone from Clarkson at the North Pole: “Hammond? May, bad luck.” (Hands phone back to Jeremy)
Hello 🧍🏽♂️
["If I were a girl, I'd be pregnant a lot"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-9rx2RXx1I)
Probably not the most iconic moment but the time where Clarkson and May threw rocks at each other in Colombia, that was hilarious.
"Good News!"
Crossing the Channel in the toyboata
In general, the intro and Clarkson saying “tonight…” or Clarkson introducing Stig. Personally, finally seeing them driving the McLaren, Porsche and Ferrari on TGT Episode 1.
>or Clarkson introducing Stig. "Some say that in a recent late-night deal, he bought a slightly dented white Fiat Uno from the Duke of Edinburgh." This aired on the state broadcaster.

Favorite moment was James May not just losing the race, but losing Bombay altogether lol. Edit: Also the train banners - Eat English Muff(in) lol
Always loved the episode where they get everything british made with an engine lined up in London
CLARKSOOOOONNN. During a peaceful african morning
My favorite special is the Bolivia special. Love them going through the Amazon and the death road.
"You've given me the baby, now get in the back".
The special with the beach buggies, where Clarkson's won't start and Hammond says let me see if mine works. It starts and then May starts his. Clarkson says can I get a push and they both just drive off.
The christmas gift scene from TG where they just spell Penis among their clothes.
"Look! A hippos head!" "Oh, it is!" "It's probably a whole hippo, it's just that the rest of him is under the water." *** "They are the funniest creatures on earth, aren't they?"... "Americans."
When clarkson said to a clutch hopping flat packed car "What a machine you are John"
Not so much moments but Vehicles for me. There is the one with John, then Oliver and the best is the Toyota Hilux.
Two words: *GOOD NEWS!*
The repeated upending of the Reliant Robin.
Me dong's going to get all soggy.
What pushed top gear over the top was Hammond's accident. Coming back from that was huge.
I always loved the episode where they had to get to some awards ceremony on one tank of gas and Clarkson was trying desperately to lose. No matter what he did he could not get his car to run dry. Sidenote, my favorite name-jab was Richard J. Cheeseburger Hammond.
My favorite part of that episode is Stig riding the carnival rides.
The Africa special (search for the source of the river Nile). All of it; the entire two part episode. It's positively brilliant. Could have been a movie.
James hitting Jeremy in the face with a dildo in a moving buggy from a different moving buggy.
For me it’s May using his charm with the ladies “hello”
How about when they found out that some magazine voted James May their "weird crush"
Clarkson you infantile pillock... You're tidying that up.
I think any one of their challenges where you can tell it doesn't quite go as expected.
My favorite is (don't remember the episode) clarkson takes Hammonds roof and all we hear is ".....CLARKSON.....WHERE'S MY ROOF?"
moments later....\*crunch\*
Peugeot drivers segment was fantastic, and also the Inappropriate use of Launch Control bit from TGT was very funny.... Also Jeremys Bone car was brilliant!
“If you listen closely, you can hear my genius”
Richard Hammond falling in love with Oliver in Botswana, crossing the Channel on the Toyboata, Michael Schumacher's lap in the Liana.
"I've broken Stalin's house... Jeez I'm going to the gulag!". Never laughed harder watching a show.
The constant crashing of the reliant robin- howling with laughter at our house.
That was definitely the funniest piece they ever did … actually, tied with the Peel P50 film.
When the Toyota pickup rolled into the studio after being nearly destroyed under a demolished building.
May and Hammond launching a Robin into space.
Can't believe no one has mentioned Jeremy's story about the 928 and his father's passing in the Patagonia special!
"Always wear a high-visibility jacket."
I love Hammond’s scandi flick gone wrong in the bedford rascal
Any episode where they're let loose with military equipment. The battleship vs Hammond bugout car was a good one. Also the car battleships game "you sunk my limousine"
When they use the military equipment to do demolition and they are all standing around Clarkson's mine clearing machine and giving him hell for it, he ends by saying "Princess Di had one" and the whole crew breaks out laughing. Piloting Extremely Nicely In Scotland
It’s got to be when they all drove towards the new grand tour stage in their mustangs… the wait was finally over and we didn’t have to watch that ginger twat on bbc 2
Hammond and May as their well thought out and planned Robin Rocket explodes.
Clarkson sinking the Toybota at the finish line while James completes the slowest two miles in history.
The episode of TG where Clarkson rolls the reliant Robin all over the midlands. Makes me laugh so hard I pull muscles.
Jeremy tipping the ToyBoata will never not be funny
"Jizzle Drizzle".
Hello
i think its the hippos/americans joke or the rise and fall of the "space shuttle".
The first episode I watched with my kids was the one that showcased the Robin Reliant. And the first time Clarkson took that corner and flipped it, I laughed so hard I nearly blacked out.
The Hilux rolling into the studio after proving to be immortal. And starting after James dropped it off a building.
Hammond in his "RV" in america... "down to 13 mph now... which is plenty" always makes me cry tears, I absolutely love that scene idk why i love it so much
"If you believe it will happen, it will happen" - Jeremy. Right before he drives his Land Rover into a ditch and gets stuck in the Bolivian jungle.
